Exercises re: ‘abandoned’ bags at NAIA 3 held

PNP-AVSEGROUP

Simulation exercises were carried out on Friday, February 10, by the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) regarding incidents of abandoned or left-behind luggage at the NAIA terminal 3.

The said exercises are made to ensure the quick response of the PNP personnel at the premier airport terminal each time a luggage is found without its owner, the PNP-AVSEGROUP said.

It is also meant to ensure the safety of the airport, the passengers and individuals in and out of the NAIA.

Under the scenario, a passenger left behind a small bag at the arrival curbside on Bays 3 and 4 at the NAIA terminal 3.

On noticing the abandoned bag, authorities from the airport report the matter and personnel from the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD) and K9 group arrive to detect if the said bag has any explosive device inside.

Moments later, the bag was declared as ‘cleared’ when the sniffing dog did not react. Found inside were a pair of shoes, clothes and toiletries.
