The Fans Return: TV Stars and Other Famous People We May See At The 2021 US Open

After a year without fans in attendance at the US Open, we should expect to see a healthy return of fans to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.

Along with fans in attendance watching the action and likely enjoying some US Open tennis betting, we should expect to see some celebrities partaking in the festivities. So, who are some of the stars we could soon see in New York watching their favourite tennis players?

Gerard Butler

Gerard Butler and Novak Djokovic hit it off as friends, as the world’s number one tennis player is a big fan of the actor’s work in the movie 300. Djokovic – whose loss at the 2021 Summer Olympics – can no longer accomplish the Golden Slam, is still going for a sweep of the Grand Slams in 2021 and likely will be a big draw for tennis fans. Of course, we are sure he can get his buddy Gerard a ticket if he wants to watch him play.

Beyonce and Jay-Z

There is a chance Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z make the trip to the tennis stadium for a chance to catch friend Serena Williams. Williams – a legend of tennis – is likely nearing the end of her career, and the opportunity to see her one final time in New York (where she has won the tournament six times, most recently in 2014) is meaningful for many.

Matthew Perry

Unlike some of the other celebs on this list, Matthew Perry is not going to watch tennis to see friends. He is going to the US Open because he grew up playing the sport. Perry spent much of his youth playing the sport – at times practising for ten hours per day. He had considerable skills and likely would have played at a collegiate level (maybe even a fringe professional level) if he did not turn his focus to acting.

Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor

Ben Stiller has been spotted on multiple occasions (sometimes accompanied by his wife Christine Taylor) watching friend and tennis legend Rafael Nadal. The two seemed to have sparked a friendship a few years ago. Maybe the next time we see them together, it will be Nadal making a cameo in Ben Stiller’s next comedy.

Brad Pitt

Like fellow actor Matthew Perry, Brad Pitt’s love for tennis dates back to childhood and high school, where he played the sport. Although not known to be at the same level as Matthew Perry, Pitt’s love for the game remains strong – and a trip to the US Open is common on the A-list actor’s yearly itinerary.

Scarlett Johansson

Before becoming a global superstar, thanks to her role as Black Widow in the Marvel films series, Scarlett Johansson starred in a movie called Match Point. Johansson played tennis every day to get into the role, which led to her growing a fancy for the sport. Now, ScarJo is known to show up to some of the biggest tennis tournaments, such as the US Open.

Benedict Cumberbatch

Will he show up at the 2021 US Open tennis tournament? We cannot be sure if he will head to New York City to catch the event. However, we do know Benedict Cumberbatch is a big tennis fan and a frequenter of Wimbledon. Maybe if he is working in New York (or somewhere in the United States), he will take a day or two off to catch the final Grand Slam of 2021.

Meghan Markle

In 2019, Meghan Markle made an impromptu trip to watch friend Serena Williams at the US Open. As we said earlier with Beyonce – the opportunity to catch Serena Williams is dwindling, and seeing her at the US Open is always a special moment. We cannot be sure she will have time, but the fact she and Harry live in the United States makes it a lot easier to travel to New York (than it would be if you were coming in from an international destination).
