Farmer shoots drinking buddy

SAN ANTONIO, Nueva Ecija – A drinking spree turned bloody after a 35-year-old farmer went berserk and shot one of his drinking buddies for no apparent reason in the middle of a conversation here on Saturday afternoon.

Town police head Major Rammel Ebarle identified the wounded victim as Zaldy Diaz, 45, of Farmland, Bgy. Luyos.

Diaz was allegedly shot by the suspect, Rogerico Castillo, 35, with an unknown type of gun during their drinking session at 3 p.m. The bullet hit the victim’s left arm and pierced through his abdomen, said Ebarle.

Ebarle said Castillo, who fled after the shooting, was subsequently arrested by local and Cabiao police. Diaz was transferred to the Premiere General Hospital for emergency treatment.

Frustrated murder charges are set to be filed against the suspect before the provincial prosecutor’s office.

Meanwhile, Ebarle’s men also nabbed Hilarion Dayao, 59, farmer, of Ilang-Ilang St., Bgy. San Francisco here, after a search operation in his house yielded a loaded .38 caliber Squires Bingham revolver.

The operation was implemented on the strength of a search warrant issued by the Gapan City regional trial court for violation of Republic Act 10591.

Ebarle said the search operation was witnessed by barangay kagawad Jay Linsangan and the suspect’s two daughters – Merly Dayao, 24, and Girlie Dela Cruz, 28.
