TWO suspected members of a Kidnap for Ransom (KFR) group were killed in an encounter with members of Philippine National Police (PNP)Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG),Wednesday evening in Teresa Rizal.
Killed were Rodel Basi and his son Romar, residents of Sitio Ibabaw 2, Dulongbayan, Teresa.
Reports reaching Camp Crame showed the authorities went to the suspects’ residence to serve a search warrant against the elder Basi.
However, the suspects welcomed the authorities with gunshots that prompted the lawmen to retaliate, which resulted in the death of the suspects.
The suspects were reportedly involved in a series of kidnapping incidents involving Indian nationals, robbery, gun for hire, and even murder incidents in Rizal.
The search warrant against Basi was issued by Judge Cynthia Marino-Ricablanca of the Regional Trial Court Fourth Judicial Region in Sta. Cruz, Laguna, for alleged violation of Republic Act 10591.
During the operation, Basi’s youngest son was also nabbed by the police. They were able to seize a shotgun, a 9 MM pistol, a cal .45 pistol from the suspect.
The PNP-AKG said the fatalities are known in the area as “armed and dangerous.”
