THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has amended the final list of candidates for the 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE).

This was announced by Comelec Chair George Erwin Garcia, after a temporary restraining order (TRO) was issued by the Supreme Court against the disqualification of certain candidates for the midterm polls.

In a resolution issued by the Comelec on Tuesday, the poll body has directed its Law Department to update its database and certified list of candidates for the upcoming polls.

This aims to include in the list senatorial aspirant Subair Guintum Mustapha and former Caloocan Rep. Edgar Erice and Charles Savellano who are both running for Congress, along with some candidates for local posts.

Apart from this, the Comelec also ordered the inclusion of the said aspirants in the official ballots that will be used in the coming May 12 elections.

“The Commission will remain committed to comply with whatever orders and decisions of the Honorable SC in relation to conduct of May 12, 2025 NLE and BPE,” Garcia assured.

It will be recalled that the Comelec halted the printing of ballots after the High Court issued a TRO in favor of the said candidates and ordered that their names be included in the official ballots that will be used for the forthcoming polls.

This resulted in the wastage of six million ballots, which have already been printed and costing P132 million.

It was learned from Garcia that the Comelec will again begin ballot printing on January 22, 2025.
