TWO house helpers died when fire broke out at the 35th floor of the 56-storey condominium building located on Ongpin Street in Binondo, Manila.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire began at 3:25 a.m. at Unit 35-A of the Anchor Sky Suite located in Ongpin and occupied by one Hanshong Chua, hours after the celebration of the Chinese New Year.
The fire reached first alarm and was declared ‘fire out’ at 4:51 a.m.
Fire Senior Inspector Cesar Babante said the occupant panicked when he saw smoke and hurriedly left the unit and was no longer able to wake up his two helpers who were asleep, so that they were trapped and died as a result.
The fire did not spread to the other units and the occupants were sent back to their units.
The BFP estimated the damage to property at P4.5 million while authorities are still investigating if there is arson involved.
