High Powered Firearms Seized from a Minor at a Military Checkpoint in Maguindanao

CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – Various high-powered firearms and other war materials were confiscated from a 13-year-old minor after being intercepted at a military checkpoint in Barangay Nabundas, Shariff Saydona Mustapha, Maguindanao in the early morning of July 19, 2021.

Troops of the 1st Mechanized Battalion under Lieutenant Colonel Cresencio Sanchez Jr., the Commanding Officer, intercepted a Kubota Kuliglig loaded with undocumented high-powered firearms and other war materials for gun manufacturing while conducting a checkpoint operation in the said barangay. The said Kubota Kuliglig was driven by a 13-year old minor (whose identity was withheld).

Confiscated firearms and other war materials

Confiscated armaments and war materials include: one (1) M16 (Bushmaster), one (1) M16 Rifle, 38 pieces of M16 Barrels, six (6) pieces of M14 Back Plate, two (2) pieces of M16 Butt plates, assorted parts for M14 and M16 rifles, one (1) unit Welding Machine, and three (3) pieces Metal clamp.

The apprehended minor was turned over to the local Police Station and to Mohamad Upam, Chairman of Brgy Bialong, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao for an in-depth investigation.

Major General Juvymax R. Uy, Commander of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division and Joint Task Force Central, commended the troops of the 1st Mechanized Battalion for the successful checkpoint operation. “Let us continue to sustain our campaign against the proliferation of unlicensed and loose firearms. Syndicates behind this activity who used minors to smuggle unlicensed firearms must be held accountable”, MGen. Uy said.
