Foretaste of Hell

Gambling

“Show me a gambler and I’ll show you a loser.”Mario Puzo

How many crimes and murder have been committed, lives and families destroyed in the name and worship of god-money or gambling?

Gambling is outlawed in China, but Filipinos have sweetly embraced it as the other gambling activities we have in the country – in exchange for “sweet money” – by permitting the operations of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) to engage in their trade, catering to gamblers in China – away from China. Ludicrous!

Gambling addictSuch an absurdity by the government through the Philippine Amusement Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) is glaring. But what about e-sabong, cockfighting, casino, lotto, jueteng, masiao, horse racing, mahjong, poker and the likes? Legal or illegal, gambling is anathema to good living. In fact, it is evil whose sting goes beyond its deception as an addictive habit (hara-kiri) for the people and “revenue” (devastation and corruption) for the country. I know what I’m saying better than what PAGCOR knows about “revenues” because I used to be a slave to gambling as a child and tender young man.

Gambling is a foretaste of hell on earth.

POGO has been creating a myriad of problems for us from the very start, and now, four years later, we howl to declare their operations illegal and we clamor to ban them all with no exception. Great, but too late the hero. Don’t our officials have foresight (or brain)? They should have not granted POGO (et cetera) a license in the first place from the outset.

Are they wearing blinkers as their eyes are limited to seeing just “revenues,” racing to win crapshoots or jackpots (bribe money) with continuity along the way – till the end of their term? No wonder, the nation and our people plunge, and plunge nonstop to pitch darkness, courtesy of the government as the biggest crook and gambling lord.

“Be on guard, therefore, against all forms of greed and covetousness because life does not consist in an abundance of riches and possessions.” – Luke 12:15
