Free COVID vaccination

Free vaccination

WITH just nine months before the filing of certificates of candidacy for next year’s national and local elections, Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso continues to fire the imagination of the people.

In fact, his constituents in Manila applauded him when he called on them to now register for the city government’s “free vaccination program” against the deadly coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Through the website “manilacovid19vaccine.com,” city residents, particularly the poorest of the poor, may sign up for a slot ahead of the rollout of the local vaccination process.

And it is reassuring to know that city authorities will only buy COVID-19 vaccines approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a health regulatory body under the Department of Health (DOH).

The country’s first local government unit (LGU) to order the online pre-registration of people who want to avail themselves of free COVID-19 vaccines, the city also offers free swab tests.

Moreno said that an ordinance earlier passed by the city council, headed by Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna and Majority Leader Joel Chua, paved the way for the allotment of P200 million to buy the vaccines.

This is on top of the vaccine allotment by the national government for the city of Manila. Moreno thanked President Rodrigo Duterte and vaccine czar Carlito Galvez for supporting the LGU in its fight against COVID-19.

And if needed, Moreno, now the undisputed “darling” of the poorest of the poor, said city government authorities may also cancel some projects to enable the LGU to purchase more vaccines.

In the view of many, this is another ample proof that the leadership of Mayor Isko and Vice Mayor Honey is paying special attention to the health, safety and welfare of their constituents.

Na dapat lang!
