THERE is no let-up in the campaign of the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), headed by Chairman Abraham “Baham” Mitra, against illegal gambling activities.
Nine persons were apprehended during a raid on illegal gambling conducted by the joint personnel of the GAB Anti-Illegal Gambling Unit and the Makati City Police in a residence in Barangay Olympia, Makati City last Oct. 31.

The GAB team, headed by team leader Glenn Jones Pe, Operatives of Intelligence Section, led by PEMS OIC Donie D. Tidang and personnel of Olympia Sub-Station conducted anti-illegal gambling operation at 4883 Chino Roces cor. Barasoin St.,Barangay Olympia in Makati City.

During the operation, the group caught in the act the persons engaged in illegal gambling (bookies). They were immediately arrested and informed them the nature and cause of their arrest and thereafter, apprised their constitutional rights.

Among the evidences recovered were two television sets, betting paraphernalias, dividendazos and bet money amounting to P459.00.

GAB, which was created in 1951, was tasked to help combat illegal gambling activities in the country and bring more revenue into the government thru sports.

Illegal bookies are often associated with the sport of cockfighting, boxing, horse racing and more.

Illegal bookies eat up revenues that could have gone to the national coffers, so the arrest of these illegal operators will send a message that the stakeholders mean business in this fight,” said Mitra.
