Glutagence to field fast, run and gun team

Glutagence Glow Boosters join TOPS officers during the weekly "Usapang Sports on Air" via Zoom.

A FREEWHEELING run and gun team ala Golden State Warriors is what the Glutagence Glow Boosters basketball team envisions in the coming 2021 Women National Basketball League (WNBL)

Glutagence team manager Nico Banson and players Ayra Hufanda and Micah Figuracion said the team hopes to perform well in the soon-to-open women’s professional basketball league.
A fast freewheeing style of play will be the team’s trademark.

In fact, we are looking to win the championship in our first year in the WNBL under coach Justin Tan,” said Banson during the “Usapang Sports on Air” by the Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) via Zoom last Thursday.

We are very fortunate to get the top three picks, led by veteran Fille Cainglet of University of the Philippines, in the recent WNBL Draft. We also have the “Splash Sisters” of Camille Claro and Khate Castillo of La Salle ,” added Banson during the weekly public service program sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) and Games and Amusements Board (GAB).

But we don’t want to be complacent. We may have a veteran team with international experience, but we still have to work hard to be able to achieve our goal of winning the first-ever professional women’s basketball championship,” Banson told TOPS editors, reporters and photographers.

Hufanda and Figuracion, who also attended the zoom conference of TOPS, agreed with Banson that the Glow Boosters will have to work hard to achieve their goal of winning the championship.

Hufanda, a mainstay of the UP Lady Maroons in the UAAP, claimed the opportunity to play in the WNBL is a dream come true for them.

After college, wala na kami dating nilalaruan na professional league. The WNBL is a dream come true for all of us,” said Hufanda.

We also want to promote women’s basketball in the country.

Figuracion, who played for the Centro Escolar University (CEU) in the NAASCU, admitted to be made due to the restrictions on team training.

Pero matagal na din namin ka-kilala ang isa’t isa, kaya madali naman siguro kami makapag-adjust kapag nagsimula na ang games,” said Figuracion.

The other teams seeing action in the tournament sanctioned by the GAB are Pacific Water Queens, Parañaque Lady Aces, Philippine Navy Lady Sailors-Go for Gold, STAN-Quezon Lady Spartans, and Taguig Lady Generals.
