Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Eric Ines directed a joint investigation to identify the whereabouts of the mother who left a fetus at the east departure restroom of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.
Ines said the joint probe is being conducted by the NAIA Police Station 1, the Airport Police Department and Sub Station 8.
Initial reports said that a cleaning staff member was performing a routine garbage collection in one of the female restrooms on the afternoon of August 6, 2024, when he found a blood-soaked napkin tissue in a garbage can inside one of the cubicles.

On further inspection, the staff member was alarmed to discover a human fetus covered by the napkin tissue.
Immediately, members of the MIAA Airport Police Department (MIAA-APD) and the MIAA Medical Team promptly responded to the scene.
Led by Dr. Donita Arnesto, the medical team confirmed that the contents of the blood-stained napkin tissue was indeed a one-month-old fetus.
The remains were transported by the MIAA-APD to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Police Station1 for appropriate action and disposition.
Also at the scene to conduct a forensic investigation were Philippine National Police Scene of the Crime Operatives (PNP- SOCO).
