Bayanihan spirit during times of disasters is very much alive.
Cebu Gov. Pam Baricuatro expressed profound gratitude to her fellow governors for their support in helping the province out post 6.9 magnitude earthquake that took the lives of 71 individuals and aLected close to half a million individuals.
She particularly thanked Gov. Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. and Gov. Aris C. Aumentado for being the “first responders”, following the deployment of rescue and medical teams and equipment, relief goods and hygiene kits, as well as financial assistance by the Provinces of South Cotabato and Bohol the day after the deadly quake whose epicenter was recorded in the northern City of Bogo in the evening of September 30.
Gov. Baricuatro has assured her colleagues in the League of Provinces of the Philippines that “the situation in Northern Cebu is challenging, but it is stabilizing.”
Apart from the Provinces of South Cotabato and Bohol, a number of provinces have also responded to the call for assistance to Cebu and have sent in financial aid.
She acknowledged the intervention of the national government in ensuring that power is restored, although two towns still do not have water service.
Search and rescue operations have already been called off, and the provincial government of Cebu and its component LGUs have already transitioned to rebuilding and rehabilitation.
“Some bridges are still unsafe, several municipal halls are unusable in five towns, and many school classrooms have sustained damage, Houses, roads, and other infrastructure will require repair and reconstruction.” Gov. Baricuatro reported.
Nonetheless, she assured the affected communities that the provincial government’s committed to ensure their rapid and safe recovery.
