Guevarra hopes for Nuezca conviction

As quickly as possible

JUSTICE Secretary Menardo Guevarra yesterday expressed hope the Department of Justice (DOJ) could secure a conviction for two counts of murder against the policeman who shot dead a mother and son in Paniqui, Tarlac last month.

Our prosecutors are waiting for the court’s order setting the arraignment of the accused, subject to the court’s calendar. We intend to terminate this case and obtain a conviction for double murder as quickly as possible,” said Guevarra.

The Office of the Provincial Prosecutor of Tarlac has indicted Police Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca for shooting to death neighbors 52-year-old Sonya Gregorio and her son Frank Anthony Gregorio, 25, in Purok 2, Bgy. Cabayaoasan.

The incident stemmed over an altercation involving a homemade PVC canon “boga“. No bail was recommended for Nuezca’s temporary liberty.

Nuezca fled after shooting the victims, but surrendered to the Rosales Pangasinan Municipal Police Station hours later. He also turned over his service pistol that was used during the crime.

Nuezca and the Gregorios are residents of Purok 2 in Bgy. Cabayaoasan in Paniqui town.

The two families were allegedly involved in a property right-of-way dispute, but the shooting incident stemmed from the firing of a PVC cannon or boga by the Gregorios.

The shooting incident was caught on camera and the video became viral on social media.
