Gunmen kill ex-village chief, 2 pals, injure 2 in Quezon

TIAONG, QUEZON — A former barangay captain and his two friends were killed while his two other drinking buddies were wounded after two unidentified men peppered them with bullets in Bgy. del Rosario in this town,Thursday night.

Quezon police director, Col. Audie Madrideo said victims Richard Nitro, ex- barangay chairman of the said village, Selvino Macaraig, also of said village, and Jay Ar Javillo of Bgy. Cabay, all died on arrival at the hospital while their drinking buddies, Rico Macaraig and Meliton Hernandez of Barangays Del Rosario and San Juan, respectively, sustained bullet wounds.

Madrideo said the two survivors are confined in a hospital and are being guarded by policemen.

Officer on case, Cpl. Ranilo Mecua said the victims were having a drinking session when the gunmen arrived and opened fire, hitting all of them at exactly 8:00 p.m.

Mecua said the attackers fled after the shooting.

Punzalan who was tagged by the police as a High Value Individual and Number 2 most wanted person in Calabarzon for killing a female lawyer in 2017 was killed in a shootout with policemen last September 18.

Punzalan reportedly opened fire while he was about to be arrested by joint elements of the Regional Intelligence Division, Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, Batangas and Ouezon Provincial Intelligence Units and Tiaong police station.

Police are still digging deeper into the incident to determine the motive behind the attack.
