Helper killed by uncle over family problems

A 24-YEAR-OLD helper died after being stabbed by his uncle following an argument in Tondo, Manila during the early hours New Year’s Day.

The victim was declared dead-on-arrival at the Mary Johnston Hospital. He was identified as Jhun Edward Fernandez, of 4 Lacson St., Herbosa, Tondo. He died due to multiple stab wounds in the stomach.

The suspect, Melgar Baltazar, 25, escaped. He and the victim reportedly lived in the same house.

Prober P/Staff Sgt. Erikson Aguilar, in his report to Manila Police District-Homicide Section chief, P/Capt. Henry Navarro, said the incident occurred at around 3:30 a.m. of January 1.

The victim and the suspect were said to have engaged in an argument stemming from family problems. In the middle of the altercation, the suspect took a knife but was pacified by his elder brother.

The victim was calmed down by Angelito Nery, 46, who told him to go home.

Nery did not notice that the victim still followed the suspect who was then already walking along Varona Street.

Moments later, shouts were heard and the victim was seen screaming for help until he fell to the ground, bloodied.

The victim was brought to the nearest hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
