Malaybalay City, Bukidnon – In a poignant observance of All Souls’ Day, the Malaybalay City Jail opened its doors to a special program that honored the memories of departed loved ones, fostering a spirit of reflection and remembrance among persons deprived of liberty and staff alike.
On November 2, 2024, the facility hosted a meaningful gathering, allowing PDL to pay tribute to their family members and friends who have passed away. The program included a memorial service featuring prayers, heartfelt speeches, and the lighting of candles as a symbol of hope and remembrance.

The event aimed not only to commemorate the souls of the departed but also to provide PDL with an opportunity for personal reflection and emotional healing. Through storytelling and sharing of memories, participants created a space where grief and loss could be openly acknowledged.
“We believe that honoring those we have lost is essential for healing,” said JCINSP SHODJI R LABIS, the City Jail Warden of Malaybalay City Jail. “This observance is not just about mourning; it’s about remembering the lives and legacies of those who have touched our hearts. It’s a reminder that love transcends even the barriers of incarceration.”
In addition to the memorial service, the program featured activities designed to promote emotional well-being, including group and individual counseling. These initiatives aimed to encourage PDL to express their feelings and connect through shared experiences of loss.

The Malaybalay City Jail is committed to providing a supportive environment that recognizes the emotional needs of PDL. This All Souls’ Day event is part of a broader initiative to foster rehabilitation and reintegration into society by promoting mental and emotional health.
As we reflect on the lives that have shaped us, let us carry forward the lessons of love, resilience, and hope.
