Hosaka still SC spox

NEWLY appointed Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo has retained Supreme Court Public Information chief Brian Keith Hosaka as the head of the high court’s PIO, and concurrent spokesperson as well.

I am honored that Chief Justice (Alexander) Gesmundo has allowed me to stay on as Spokesperson and Chief of the Public Information Office of the Supreme Court. He will be the third Chief Justice I will be working for since Retired Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin appointed me in 2019.

I am very excited not only because Chief Justice Gesmundo has a brilliant legal mind, but more importantly because he is kind, humble, and consultative. He strikes me as a Chief Justice who will be a decisive servant leader. This means that he will only have the best and selfless intention for the Judiciary, ” Hosaka said.

President Duterte appointed Gesmundo as new chief justice, replacing Diosdado Peralta who recently retired.

Gesmundo, 64, is President Duterte’s 4th chief justice appointee in less than three years after Teresita Leonardo-De Castro, Lucas Bersamin, and Peralta.

He will serve as chief justice for five years or until he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 70 on November 6, 2026.

The new chief justice obtained his law degree from the Ateneo de Manila University in 1984 and passed the Bar the following year.

He entered the government service in 1985 as a trial attorney at the Office of the Solicitor General. He had also served as assistant solicitor general and commissioner of the Presidential Commission on Good Government as well as taught law in various schools.
