Hospitals for state Us, colleges with medical programs sought

A NEOPHYTE Metro Manila lawmaker has filed a bill seeking to establish a hospital in every state college and university with medical programs.

House Assistant Majority Leader and Quezon City Rep. Anthony Peter “Onyx” D. Crisologo stressed that one of the central problems in our healthcare system is the continued shortage of medical facilities and practitioners catering to the number of people in need of medical care.

In a study done by the University of the Philippines (UP) – Center for Integrative and Development Studies (CIDS), Crisologo stated that the existing deficiency in the number of practicing medical practitioners results to adverse health outcomes in the country.

Crisologo emphasized that this was significantly highlighted during the emergence of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic that challenged the nation’s capacity to respond to public health emergencies.

Crisologo said his House Bill (HB) 8633 aims to create hospitals in state universities and colleges to strengthen the country’s proficiency in responding to the general public’s healthcare needs.

He added the bill will aid and ensure the efficient and full implementation of the Universal Health Care (UHC) Act.

“This bill will enhance the medical programs in state universities and colleges, through the provision of accessible and sufficient training grounds for medical students and consequently guarantee the production of additional medical experts leading to a more effective health system,” Crisologo said.
