House has 3 more COVID-19 cases

THE House of Representatives on Saturday reported three more employees whotested positive for coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19), which could bring the total cases to 58, including Northern Samar Rep. Paul Daza.

In an advisory sent to House members, House Secretary General Atty. Jose Luis G. Montales said the leadership received three confirmed cases of COVID-19.

“The first is an employee assigned at the Transportation Service. He reported for work on Aug. 24 and 25. The second is a Congressional staff. She went to work on August 12 and 13. The following day, she took care of her sick mother, who turned out to be positive for COVID-19,” Montales said in his report.

“The third is an employee from the Reference and Research Bureau who last reported for work on July 29. He was exposed to his sister who, in turn, was a close contact of confirmed case in her office (not House of Representatives),” said Montales.

Montales also said that the House of Representatives has 13 active COVID-19 cases. As of posting time, the House official data on COVID-19 positive in the House of Representatives is 57, excluding Daza’s case who was the sixth lawmaker on record who caught the deadly disease.

Earlier, COVID-19 claimed the life of Senior Citizens party-list Rep. Francisco “Jun” Datol Jr.

Three other congressional staff and members of the secretariat of the House of Representatives died.

Four lawmakers, namely, Bulacan Rep. Henry Villarica and Sulu Rep. Shamier Tan and Deputy Speakers Johnny Pimentel of Surigao del Sur and Mujiv Hataman of Basilan were among those who have caught the disease.
