House leadership fully backs Duterte fight against red tape, corruption – Romualdez

HOUSE Majority Leader and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez on Wednesday said the leadership of Speaker Lord Allan Velasco is in full support of President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte’s marching orders for Congress to go all out in helping curb red tape and corruption in all levels of governance.

Romualdez, chairman of the powerful House committee on rules, urged all sectors to help the President in his campaign to put a stop to deep-rooted, systemic and systematic corruption in government.

“President Rodrigo ‘Rody’ Duterte’s certification on the proposed law that would grant him anti-red tape powers to accelerate the country’s socioeconomic recovery is a welcome development,” Romualdez said as he appealed to his colleagues to support all efforts of the Velasco leadership to immediately pass all anti-corruption measures.

“House leaders under the leadership of Speaker Lord Allan Velasco are in full agreement with the Chief Executive to fast-track the approval of all pending measures related to the anti-red tape and anti-corruption campaign of the government,” Romualdez stressed.

“The President is tired of continued corruption. He wants a legacy that genuine reforms are implemented under his term. He stressed that any delay in the release of business permits is tantamount to corruption,” he explained.

Romualdez said a bill to fight persistent bureaucratic red tape by granting the President anti-red tape powers during national emergencies such as the current coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic is being readied.

“We are readying a proposed law that would authorize the President to act expeditiously on the processing and issuance of national and local permits, licenses, and certifications,” Romualdez said.
