House picks two Deputy Speakers in reshuffle

THE House of Representatives yesterday elected two solons as Deputy Speakers.

1-PACMAN Rep. Mikee Romero was reinstated replacing Camarines Sur Rep. Lray Villafuerte.

Meanwhile, Oriental Mindoro Rep. Doy Leachon was elected as Deputy Speaker replacing Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte who was earlier elected as Chairman of the House committee on accounts.

Negros Oriental Rep. Arnulfo Teves had questioned the huge budget allocation given to Villafuerte, an ally of former Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, for his district under the budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Ahead of the election of Romero and Leachon, Quezon Rep. Angelina Tan was reinstated as chairman of the House committee on health.

During the Speakership row, both Romero and Tan were removed from their respective posts because of their alliance with newl-installed Speaker Lord Allan Velasco.

More than 200 solons elected Velasco to be the next Speaker of the House following the ouster of Cayetano.

In a related story, Rodolfo Ordanes and Ducielle Cardema took their oaths as new members of the House of Representatives.

Ordanes is the representative of Senior Citizens party, replacing the late Senior Citizens party-list Rep. Francisco Datol.

Cardema is representing the Duterte Youth party-list.

The House now has 301 members.
