IDC recognizes Cisco Philippines as the market share leader in Wireless LAN

IDC Graph

Metro Manila, Philippines — Cisco has been named number one Wireless LAN (WLAN) vendor in the Philippines by global market intelligence research group International Data Corporation (IDC). In the Q2 2021 release of IDC’s Quarterly WLAN Tracker, it was revealed that Cisco has a 40% market share in the Enterprise WLAN segment in the country.

“From a geographic perspective, the enterprise WLAN market saw growth across all regions of the world, and growth was particularly strong in Asia,” IDC press release says. In the Philippines, Cisco’s market share in the enterprise WLAN segment increased by 2.8 percentage points year over year, bringing its total share to 40% in Q2 2021, according to IDC.

According to Cisco Philippines’ Officer-In-Charge Managing Director, Robin Llamas, “Cisco has been a wired and wireless LAN leader for the past six years, as we deliver a broad portfolio of wireless solutions.” Cisco’s wireless networking combines the mobility of wireless with the performance of wired networks.

Cisco’s wireless technology is also a critical component in programs built to ensure safe spaces amid the ongoing pandemic, and to assist in the country’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution program. Through its UGNAYAN2030 program – a 10-year commitment to advocate for a digitally resilient Philippines, Cisco is also servicing the Philippine government for its national wireless-fidelity (Wi-Fi) rollout.

IDC’s tracker provides insights to consumer trends and product details across the WLAN market. As reported by IDC, “Cisco Philippines’ rolling market share averaged 35% from Q3 2020 to Q2 2021, though its revenue decreased by 6.2% year over year in Q2 2021.” Cisco’s WLAN is currently being used by top companies in the Philippines, and is prominent in the business processing outsourcing sector, as well as the academe.

“Our technology is designed for flexibility between different applications and components, which has allowed us to work with small to large businesses across all industries,” Llamas shared. In 2020, a WLAN Access Infrastructure Report by US research and consultancy firm, Gartner Inc., emphasized that Cisco’s flexibility is granted by a programmable architecture and is supported by a geographically diversified operation. The market share leader also leverages its investments in new chips and operating system development across its entire portfolio, Gartner Inc. says.

Overall, Cisco’s WLAN supports a vast range of business-focused wireless networks from the most basic to today’s most demanding high-density environments. “We continue to innovate our technology because they are a testament to our mission to empower an inclusive digital future for all, while our national footprint is a great indication that we remain true to that promise,” Llamas concluded.
