Iligan City Jail PDL Celebrate Joint Graduation from TESDA Training Programs

‘Felix’ gripped his graduation certificate with both hands, running his fingers over the embossed seal. It was a symbol of change, a marker of possibility. Just a few weeks ago, he had spent his days behind bars with nothing but time and regrets. Now, he stood alongside fellow PDL, wearing a proud smile as he celebrated a step toward a new future.

On May 14, 2025, Iligan City Jail-Male Dormitory (ICJMD) and Iligan City Jail-Female Dormitory (ICJFD) held a joint graduation ceremony for PDL who successfully completed TESDA’s 40-hour training programs. The event, held at the ICJMD facility, underscored the significance of rehabilitation through education and skill-building.

PDL Graduation

A total of 97 PDL graduated from various courses aimed at preparing them for reintegration into society. In ICJMD, 30 PDL finished the Theoretical Driving Course, learning essential road safety and vehicle operation skills. Another 30 PDL completed Automotive Starter System Troubleshooting and Repair, gaining expertise in diagnosing and fixing ignition-related issues.

Meanwhile, in ICJFD, 16 PDL earned certificates in cookies and tart making, while 21 PDL completed organic farming training—both designed to provide livelihood opportunities post-release.

During the ceremony, JCINSP CARMELO A CORSAME, warden of ICJMD, emphasized how technical training empowers PDL to envision a future beyond incarceration. JINSP MARIVIC D VERGARA, warden of ICJFD, praised the determination of the graduates, highlighting their commitment to self-improvement.

TESDA Regional Training Center-X (Iligan City) Head Sittie Aliah Ali Limbao-Lucman also attended the event, expressing gratitude for TESDA’s collaboration with correctional facilities. “Through skill development, we are offering PDL a second chance—an opportunity for a better future beyond incarceration,” she remarked.

For Felix and his fellow graduates, the day marked a promise that, despite their past, the future remains theirs to shape.
