MAYOR Isko Moreno yesterday directed the directors of the six city-run hospitals in Manila to execute a system that would make work shifts among health workers fast enough so as not to unduly tire them out.
It was learned that Moreno and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna spent half a day on brainstorming with the directors of the city hospitals regarding the adoption of changes in internal policies and plans that are in keeping with the times.
Moreno said “the hospital directors are already properly guided…I leave it to the directors beause every hospital has a category and bed capacity and number of workers.”
According to Moreno, he and Lacuna, who is supervising the operation of the said hospitals being a doctor herself, have issued a generic order giving the directors the authority to implement the plans discussed.
“Basta at the end of the day, we want the hospitals to remain fully functional to the limit capacity without adversely affecting the physical, mental and emotional condition of the medical frontliners,” Moreno stressed.
The mayor reiterated his appeal for the residents to observe minimum health standards like wearing of face masks, face shields, frequent hand washing or sanitation and proper physical distancing, so as not to add to the growing list of COVID-19 patients in Manila.
He stressed that the city’s accommodation capacity has already breached the 85 percent margin and that if the residents will continue being careless, they might end up being treated in the streets, basketball courts or barangay halls once they get infected with COVID-19.
The city has six hospitals — Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center in District 1; Ospital ng Tondo, District 2; Justice Abad Santos General Hospital, District 3; Ospital ng Sampaloc, District 4; Ospital ng Maynila, District 5 and Sta. Ana Hospital in District 6.
Moreno and Lacuna also opened quarantine facilities spread all over the city totalling almost 600 bed capacity and according to the mayor, the total of such facilities will be 15 by the end of the month.
Yesterday, Moreno and Lacuna inaugurated the 13th quarantine facility in MLQU in Quiapo which has a 60-bed capacity.
