MANILA Mayor Isko Moreno announced that he and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna have created the Manila COVID-19 Vaccine Action Center (MCVAC) in preparation for the upcoming free vaccination of about a million city residents, workers and visitors as soon as the vaccines arrive.

Moreno said the MCVAC aims to assist in the registration of persons planning to have the vaccination against COVID-19; handle inquiries about the vaccine and do reporting and referral of AEFI (adverse events following immunization).

A presentation titled, “Manila COVID-19 Vaccination Plan” was shown by Manila Health Department (MHD) chief Dr. Arnold ‘Poks’’ Pangan to the employees at the Manila City Hall.

Pangan said the public is encouraged to contact the MCVAC via celphone numbers 0927-351-0849; 0915-703-0621; 0968-572-1975; or 0961-020-2655 for inquiries about the COVID-19 vaccination program.

Moreno said the MHD, the lead department handling the COVID-19 vaccination program of the city, is currently preparing an information campaign to encourage vaccination. The MHD is also handling the creation of the master list of priority groups through registration of individuals.

Earlier on, Moreno, Lacuna and Pangan led simulation exercises regarding the flow of the vaccination.

The step-by-step process is as follows: individuals will be at the waiting area for vital signs taking; they will go to pre-registered areas for verification of client’s identification and counselling or for walk-in individuals’ observation area for registration and counselling; they will be at the screening area for assessment and final consent; they will proceed to the vaccination area and completion of immunization card; they will go to the monitoring area, where the individuals will be monitored for 30 minutes to an hour for any adverse reaction to the vaccine.

In case an AEFI or adverse events following immunization, there will be an Emergency Response Team, consisting of a doctor and an ambulance complete with medical emergency kits, on standby. In case of emergencies, the individual will be sent to the nearest hospital in Manila.

For post-vaccination, the MHD said the vaccinated individual will be issued a Vaccination Passport. The MVAC will also do evaluations and reports about the vaccination program.
