Isko leads recognition of Manila COVID frontliners

MAYOR Isko Moreno yesterday led the city of Manila in giving recognition to the city’s frontliners during this pandemic, in commemoration of the ‘Araw ng Kagitingan.’

“Let us celebrate our Day of Valor by honoring our unsung heroes who have exemplified utmost bravery in their respective fields of endeavour by serving in the frontlines, as the nation continuously battles COVID-19,” Moreno said.

The mayor paid tribute to the medical and health frontliners, the city personnel involved in the delivery of assistance from the national and local governments and those who continue enabling the city government function fully amid the pandemic.

He particularly lauded the city government’s vaccinating teams, led by Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna who is in charge of the city’s health cluster, whom he said have been working full time even during weekends and specially during the Holy Week, so that the city was able to vaccinate the most number of individuals by far.

Moreno likewise praised those behind the operations of the six city-run hospitals for their dedication to duty amid the surge in coronavirus cases, over and above the non-COVID cases that also require their attention.

“Pinagpapasalamat ko sa Diyos na binigyan ako ng masipag na Vice Mayor sa katauhan ni Honey Lacuna at ng mababait at dedicated na mga kasamahan sa trabaho na handang maglingkod kahit pa piyesta opisyal at lagpas-lagpas sa oras ng tunay nilang pasok sa trabaho at handang sumabak sa panganib ng COVID-19,” the mayor said.

Moreno himself had turned his office into his temporary residence since the pandemic began.

The Day of Valor, also known as Araw ng Kagitingan, commemorates the heroism of Filipinos and American Soldiers when the Japanese occupied the Philippines during World War II.
