EXPRESSSING satisfaction over the fact that most parts of Manila were not submerged in floodwaters the way they used to be when three typhoons –‘Ulysses’ being the latest– hit the country recently, Mayor Isko Moreno ordered that the cleaning and declogging operations in the city be intensified even more.

In his directive to city engineer Armand Andres, Moreno said the declogging operations, although already being done daily, should be intensified even more after it proved to be effective against floods during ‘Ulysses.’

“Araw-araw ang paglilinis natin ng imburnal, avenida, boulevard, callejon, kalsada, iskinita para pag nagkaroon ng baha, bababa kaagad ang tubig,” he said.

“Salamat sa Diyos, nakaraos ang Maynila sa ‘Ulysses’ pero hindi ito garantiya… maaring sa susunod na bagyo ay lulubog din ang Maynila,” Moreno added, as he assured Manilans that the daily declogging in various areas of the city will continue.

The mayor also thanked the residents after learning that some of them show generosity by feeding the City Hall personnel undertaking the said declogging operations as a way of expressing their gratitude.

He thus called on all Manilans to help the city government by not throwing their garbage indiscriminately specially into bodies of water, sewers and canals.

Moreno also lauded Andres and his personnel for carrying out continuous debundling operations of knotted up electric and cable wires that are not only an eyesores but also pose danger to the public.

The city government, he added, is also actively doing ‘simple fix’ or the asphalting of pothole-riddled streets for the convenience of motorists.
