THIS one is for the books.
Some job order (JO) employees in Manila City Hall have unfairly undergone renewal, some for as many as 30 to 50 times in their entire career in Manila City Hall, when they could have already become regular employees enjoying benefits.
This sad reality was bared after Mayor Isko Moreno signed the appointments of certain JO personnel who have not become regular employees for a minimum of 15 years.
Moreno approved the appointment of seven City Hall band members who have been JO employees for the past 15 to 25 years.
‘Isipin nyo, every six months ang renewal ng JO.Ibig sabihin nun 50 times na siyang nire-renew as JO for the past 25 years. At least ngayon di na sila magre-retiro bilang isang JO,’ the mayor said, noting that such employees have already grown old rendering services to the city.
Moreno also lauded their chief, tourism department head Charlie Dungo, for looking after the welfare of his subordinates, when he recommended the regularization of the said seven band members, after learning that they have been JO all their lives.
Dungo said band member Edgardo Santos, a trumpet player, has been on JO status the longest, at 25 years. The others whom Dungo recommended for regular appointments and promoted by Moreno were: Ferdinand Briones, 23 years in service; Errol Baluyot 20 years; Santi Atoy, 17 years; Felipe Candelaria, 17 years; Joselito Angeles, 15 years and Richard Otiong, 15 years.
Moreno said the band plays a vital role in the city, giving life not only for playing during flag-raising ceremonies and flag retreats but to every occasion and most specially in welcoming foreign diplomats and dignitaries.
