Jamie ready and excited

AS Team Karate Pilipinas departed for the start of their bubble training at the INSPIRE Sports Academy yesterday, Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Jamie Lim is excited on what lies ahead.

LEZZGGEDDIT,” Lim posted with a flexed biceps emoji on her Instagram story.

After almost 10 months of doing home workouts to remain in shape doing the quarantine, Lim together with other national team karatekas have already settled at the National University-Laguna campus as the University of the Philippines graduate resumes her Olympic dream.

Jason Macaalay, Ivan Agustin, Shrief Afif and Alwayn Batian are also in the Calamba bubble camp together with coaches Norman Montalvo and Junel Perania.

The daughter of Philippine basketball legend Samboy, Lim will go all-out to secure a spot in the coronavirus-stalled Tokyo Olympics, where karate will be contested in the quadrennial games for the first time.

It’s gonna be a long shot, kasi everyone will wanna join and everyone wants to be part of the Olympics,” said Lim during a recent
television interview.

And this is really the last shot (for the Olympics),” she added. “Pero kakayanin po.

Lim was one of two Filipinas to win a gold in karate in the 30th SEA Games, ruling the +61kg division.

Junna Tsukii was the country’s other gold medal winner in the sport, topping the -50kg class. Both athletes, along with Fil-Am Joane

Orbon, are still in the hunt for an Olympic berth.

They are expected to compete in the final qualification tournament that will be held on June 11-13 in Paris, France.

I’m gonna do everything I can. I’ll do my best and hope for the best po,” said Lim.

Aside from karate team, the national men’s basketball squad preparing for next month’s final window of the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers and the boxers led by Tokyo Olympics qualifier Irish Magno, are already inside the INSPIRE Sports Academy.

Rio Olympian Elaine Alora have already entered the bubble yesterday afternoon together with other national taekwondo jins.
