JANE Oineza is the personal choice of debuting director Easy Ferrer to play the female lead role of Kit in “Finding You”. “I’ve worked with her several times sa ABS-CBN kaya alam kong magaling siyang aktres at bagay siya sa role ng best friend at kababata ni Jerome Ponce in the story,” says Direk Easy. “And I was right dahil they both really shine performing their respective roles in the movie.”
Jane says her pairing with Jerome worked because they’ve been good friends ever since they got to work together in the afternoon soap, “Nasaan Ka nang Kailangan Kita”, four years ago, in which Direk Easy was the assistant director. Wasn’t there a rumor that they really became on while doing that drama series?
“No, never po naging kami,” she replies. “We’re more than friends but less than lovers, parang hindi nag-bloom ‘yung relationship namin. May posibilidad, pero hindi umabot doon, hanggang friendship lang talaga, and we have managed to maintain that friendship up to now.”
So why didn’t it prosper? Does Jerome have qualities she didn’t like then? “No, he has many good qualities. As a person, he can be really sweet. He’s thoughtful, mabait siya. And may sense of humor kasi napapatawa niya ako. I was really comfortable with him. Kaya lang, pareho kaming career ang priority that time. Trabaho lang nang trabaho. We go out with other friends and nagkukuwentuhan kami kapag matagal kaming hindi nagkikita. And it helped dito sa ‘Finding You’, maniniwala ka talagang we’re the best of special friends in the story kasi we’re so comfortable with each other.”
In the story, Jerome is afflicted with hyperthymesia, a condition where he doesn’t forget anything that happened in his life, so all the heartbreaks he experienced continue to haunt him. Jane as his best friend returns from living in the States to get married but their meeting each other again prove to be crucial in both their lives. Will Jane be the reason for Jerome to finally get to forget all the hurtful things that happened to him before?
“Yun po ang dapat nyong abangan sa movie,” says Jane. “Romcom po ito pero may scenes din na puno ng drama. Ibang-iba sa romantic movies na napalabas na po before.”
