A Japanese reportedly who impersonated police officers and an employee of the Japan Ministry of Finance to steal ATM cards was arrested Tuesday at the Bureau of Immigration (BI) satellite office in SM Aura, Taguig while trying to renew her tourist visa.

In a report to BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco, BI SM Aura Alien Control Officer Evita Mercader detailed the arrest of Terashima Haruna, 27, following an attempt to extend her tourist visa, having been in the country November 2022.

She will remain in the BI’s warden facility in Bicutan, Taguig pending the resolution of her deportation case.

BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval said that upon inspection by the officer, it was found that Terashima has a pending deportation case.

Sandoval said the BI received information from Japanese authorities about Terashima’s case on February 2023.

She had been tagged by the Japanese government as a fugitive from justice, for having an arrest warrant issued against her by the Tokyo Summary Court on September 2022 for theft, in violation of the Japanese Penal Code.
