JTFC and 6ID Commander strongly condemns the Bombing in Tacurong and Koronadal

Bus BombingCamp Siongco, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao – The Joint Task Force Central and 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division strongly condemns the cowardly act of the terrorist group and peace spoilers that put the lives of innocent civilians in danger, who left an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which is a violation of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, in the cities of Tacurong and Koronadal at around 12:30 in the afternoon (May 26, 2022).

As a background of the incident, at around 12:30 this afternoon (May 26, 2022) an IED exploded at Gensan Drive, in front of East West Bank, Barangay Zone 3, Koronadal City, South Cotabato involving one public utility bus owned by Yellow Bus Lines Incorporated with body number 2108 and plate number MWB 216.

The said incident injured an unidentified male tricycle driver. The alleged perpetrator behind the incident is still being investigated by the authorities.

The said area of the incident was immediately cordoned while the victim was brought to the nearest hospital for medication. South Cotabato EOD and K9 Team were dispatched to conduct a clearing operation.

At around 12:30pm of the same day (May 26, 2022), an explosion transpired at a vacant lot of Barangay New Carmen, Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat. No casualty was recorded in the said incident.

The JTF Central troops assigned in the area immediately cordoned the place while a team of Bomb Disposal Unit immediately render safe procedure.

BombingBGen. Pedro Balisi, Brigade Commander of 1st Mechanized Brigade said “the PNP, AFP, and LGU are working hand in hand to manage the situation. An investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the PNP to determine the perpetrators and motives behind the two incidents. The authorities ask civilians to remain calm as the security forces were doing everything to bring the suspects to justice”.

Meanwhile, BGen. Eduardo Gubat, Acting Division Commander of 6ID and JTFC directed all its units under the Joint Area of Operation to intensify checkpoint operations and intelligence monitoring in coordination with our PNP counterpart.

“Acts like these that cause harm to innocent civilians are reprehensible, wrong, and evil. The bombing incident only shows that there are people who are ruthless that we need to be wary of. We will exert efforts so that we can identify who are the perpetrators of these incidents and pursue proper actions according to law”, BGen Gubat said.

JTFC and 6ID is committed to ensure the security and safety of the people in South- and South-Central Mindanao by conducting proactive operations targeting the terrorist and their armed elements.
