KAYA-Iloilo FC is simply seeking for the next best thing by finishing second in the Philippines Football League.
Coming off back-to-back draws that cost them a shot at winning the league title for the first time, Kaya-Iloilo hopes that it has enough gas left to formally claim a spot in the AFC Cup as it clashes with newly-crowned PFL champions United City FC in tonight’s season finale for both clubs.
Kick-off is at 7 p.m. at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite
Kaya-Iloilo’s stunning scoreless draw with Mendiola FC ended its championship bid, as UCFC wrapped up the championship and a spot in the AFC Champions League with a 7-1 conquest of Stallion-Laguna last Friday.
Much as it had been for the competition, Kaya’s attacking players were guilty of missing chances.
“While my boys wanted to win I believe they did not give their full 100 percent,” said Kaya-Iloilo’s Japanese coach Yu Hoshide.
“Maybe my boys were a bit tired with only two days of rest between games. I don’t know,” he added.
Win or lose, there is no stopping UCFC’s coronation as the Philippine club champions of the tournament presented by Qatar Airways and sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board.
UCFC has a maximum of 12 points, four clear of Kaya-Iloilo, which has eight points.Publication Source : People's Tonight
