Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna made another record by awarding the most number of lots to landless Manilans at least in the past 30 years or compared to her predecessors.

According to the records of the Manila Urban Settlements Office (MUSO) headed by Atty. Dave de Guzman, the Lacuna administration was able to hand over titled lots to nearly 800 awardees under the city government‘s “Land for the Landless Program (LLP)”, since the lady mayor assumed office in 2022.

De Guzman said there are currently a total of 775 LLP awardees, the highest since 1988 or over the past three decades.

It was learned that the most number of lots awarded by a mayor so far was 424, during the time of then Mayor Alfredo S. Lim.

Under the LLP, residents who live in homes that sit on lands that are not theirs get the chance to finally own the said lots.

Lacuna said she intends to continue the LLP that she began in 2022, as she aims to provide more families with the opportunity of owning the lots where their houses stand, so that they would no longer fear that the lot owner may have them removed anytime.

The lady mayor has directed Atty. De Guzman to continue addressing the city’s backlog when it comes to housing, as she also announced that more landless residents will be receiving lots in the days to come.
