A six-storey school building in Tondo with 44 air-conditioned classrooms was inaugurated by Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo, with an assurance that no loans were secured for the project.
This brings to already six the number of new school buildings that Lacuna’s administration has built since she was elected Manila mayor in 2022, as she stressed that all of these have been accomplished without having to obtain any loans.
It was learned that stakeholder donors are also expected to pitch in for the solar panels, so that classes will be uninterrupted even during power outage.
The lady mayor said that the new school building of the Emilio Jacinto Elementary School will serve a total of 3,225 students and 115 faculty members and non-teaching personnel of the school.
“Dahil may aircon ang classrooms, safe mula sa matinding init ang ang ating mga estudyante at faculty .Bukod sa mga classrooms, may mga bukod na specialized rooms pa para sa pag-aaral ng Information & Communications Technology, Science, Technology & Livelihood Education at Home Economics,” Lacuna said.
She also stressed that the new school building was “built with the city’s Special Education Funds, not bank loans.”
The project costing P458,116,746.30 was built on a 2,864-square-meter lot. Its other facilities include elevators, a library, a canteen, an air-conditioned social hall on the sixth floor, restrooms and an open basketball court with bleacher seats.
