MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna has ordered that there will be no inspections on business establishments this holiday season.
This was learned from City Administrator Bernie Ang, who said that he has already issued a memorandum to this effect, to all concerned city government units.
According to Ang, the prohibition on all inspections takes effect immediately and covers all establishments to include shopping malls such as 168 and 999, where numerous stalls are located.
Ang also warned that those who will counter or do any acts in violation of the said order will be dealt with accordingly, adding that the mayor’s order on the matter is for strict compliance.
According to Ang, the order was given by Lacuna in order to ensure unhampered operations for all businessmen operating within the city of Manila, noting that it is only during the holidays that businesses peak.
He added that the move is also aimed at thwarting possible attempts by unscrupulous individuals who harass and extort business establishments by posing as city hall inspectors. He said this illegal activity is prevalent during holidays, everywhere else where the usual targets are establishments owned by Filipino-Chinese businessmen.
In line with this, Ang is also appealing to business establishment owners to report to the city if anybody goes to them for inspection purposes and for them to take a photo or video of the poseur concerned, so that the matter can be acted upon immediately.
