Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo are appealing for extra donations either in kind or in cash for the nearly 2,000 families who have been displaced by two huge fire incidents in Tondo.
The city’s top two officials said the donations will go a long way to help the affected residents rebuild their lives.
Lacuna assured that the Manila City Council under Presiding Officer Yul Servo is passing the needed measures to provide the fire victims substantial assistance.
The mayor sttessed that considering the huge amount entailed owing to the number of families affected, the provision of monetary assistance must pass through the proper processes since it involves local government funds.
Lacuna said that he and Servo are very careful when it comes to handling public funds, making sure that they are spent properly and in accordance with the dictates of the law.
Meanwhile, Lacuna said all contributions to support the families who have been adversely affected by the said fires will be highly welcome.
Such donations, she said, may be coursed through the office of Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) chief Re Fugoso and the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) headed by Arnel Angeles.
Lacuna added that donations may also be dropped off at the Kartilya ng Katipunan beside the Manila City Hall.
MDRRMO and MDSW staff will be posted in the said site to receive donations, she said.
