MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo handed financial assistance to about 200 families who lost their homes to recent fire incidents in Tondo.
According to Manila department of social welfare head Re Fugoso, the displaced families are from Barangays 106 and 123 both in Tondo, Manila.
Apart from temporary shelter, meals, clothes, hygiene kits and other goods, Fugoso said each of the affected families received financial aid in the amount of P10,000 each.
In her short message, Lacuna told the residents that the provision of monetary assistance is the city government’s little way of showing them that their officials are there to help them get up again and start anew.
“Hindi po kayo nag-iisa. Kami ay nananalangin para sa inyong kaligtasan, kalakasan ng loob, at mabilis na pagbangon. Nawa’y makatagpo kayo ng tulong, ginhawa at pag-asa sa kabila ng trahedyang ito. Sama-sama nating haharapin ang hamon ng muling pagbangon at paghilom,” the mayor said.
Lacuna also called on all residents to be cautious of things that cause fire like abandoned lit candles and cigarettes as well as items that then to overheat when left unattended like chargers and electric fans.
She also reiterated earlier pronouncements that in case of fire, saving own lives and loved ones must always be the top priority.
