MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna thanked all those who extended help regarding the two fire incidents that took place separately in Tondo over the weekend and rendered nearly 2,000 families homeless.
In her message at the City Hall’s flagraising ceremony yesterday, Lacuna particularly acknowledged the help and support given by the officers and employes of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Manila, the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office director Arnel Angeles, Manila Health Department under Dr. Arnold Pangan and the Manila department of social welfare headed by Re Fugoso which continues to take care of the fire victims until now.
Lacuna also lauded the efforts of the department of public services (DPS) in clearing up the areas affected by the said massive fire incidents.
Too, the mayor thanked the barangay chairmen who immediately agreed to lend the covered courts under their jurisdiction so they could be used as evacuation centers for the fire victims, along with the division of city schools (DCS) which lent the nearby school also as evacuation site.

Lacuna likewise expressed gratitude to other local government units which offered help to Manila, along with the fire volunteers and private individuals and organizations that came together to also help.
It was learned that when Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo rushed to the fire scene, all concerned units of the city government were swiftly mobilized and the chairmen concerned also readily agreed to have their covered courts used as temporary shelter sites, so that when the fire was finally contained, all needed measures were already in place.
Lacuna said she and Servo are thankful that no lives were lost and no one was harmed in the said fire.
She reiterated her usual reminder that in times of fire, saving precious lives must always be the top priority because all material possession may be bought again.
The lady mayor also once again appealed to the residents to be cautious against causes of fire.
