“Maraming salamat po, Pangulong Bongbong Marcos sa inyong walang sawang serbisyo at pagmamahal sa bayan.”
This was how Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna expressed her gratitude to President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, whom she lauded for continuously exerting efforts to revive the Pasig River.
Lacuna said this as she joined President Marcos, Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, among others, at the inauguration of the Phase 3 of the Pasig River rehabilitation project titled “Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli ” on Thursday evening, February 27, 2025.
Phase 3, it was learned, will create 2,000 square meters of open space by closing the previously divided Plaza Mexico road.
“This will create a safer, more beautiful, and expansive area for public events, for gatherings, and for leisurely walks. More than a development project, it symbolizes unity— honoring our past while embracing progress,” President Marcos, Jr. said.
The lady mayor noted that the Pasig River Esplanade that stretches from Jones Bridge to near the end of the Manila Post Office and which they also previously inaugurated has become an instant hit among local and foreign tourists alike.
Reaffirming his commitment to helping in the Pasig River revival, President Marcos, Jr. said: “Our mission is simple but it is difficult: to bring back the river to its pristine state and make it a vibrant waterway once again for life, for culture, and for mobility.”
The Phase 3 inauguration took place at Plaza Mexico, Riverside Drive in Intramuros where officials of the Inter-Agency Council for the Pasig River Urban Development, led by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) under Jerry Acuzar, were present.
It was learned that the First Lady oversees the progress of the project due to her passion for history and culture.
