COLLEGE of Saint Benilde shoots for its third straight win as it tangles with dangerous Letran today in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Gayle Pascual, the leading Lady Blazers scorer, hopes that her team will remain consistent in their noontime showdown with the Lady Knights.
“Sa amin naman po, kung ano ang maia-ambag namin sa team, kung ano ang maibibigay namin, gagawin po namin ang best namin,” said Pascual.
After opening the season with a four-set romp of last year’s runner-up University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, St. Benilde survived a tough Lyceum of the Philippines University side, 23-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 15-7, to join defending champion Arellano University on top of the standings.
Toughened by its off-season build-up which includes a participation in the PVL Collegiate Conference, Letran is determined to go all the way this season.
Coach Mike Inoferio is very much aware that his Lady Knights will be truly challenged by the Lady Blazers, who were the best-placed NCAA team in the PVL last year.
”Siyempre lahat ng teams gusto naman maging top four. From there, tignan natin kung anong mangyayari. Ang importante, pina-practice namin kung anong gustong ipagawa sa mga bata,” said Inoferio after Letran topped Emilio Aguinaldo College, 22-25, 25-10, 25-18, 25-13 last Friday.
The Lady Knights tortured the Lady Generals with their solid service and blocking which will be put to the test against the Lady Blazers.
Mapua and EAC eye to barge into the win column in the day’s other match at 2 p.m.
Both teams were at the bottom last year, with the Lady Cardinals’ lone victory came at the expense of the Lady Generals, who went winless in that season.Publication Source : People's Journal
