Lamb meat, beef seized at NAIA

THE Bureau of Customs-NAIA announced the confiscation of 18 kilos of lamb meat and a total of 42.2 kilos of beef which were imported by three passengers from the USA and Saudi Arabia without the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) clearances.

The said meat were seized at the arrival area of the NAIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

In connection with this, NAIA District Collector Carmelita Talusan warned the public that BOC-NAIA will continue to relentlessly confiscate all imported meat and meat products without the necessary permits and turn over the same to the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) for immediate disposal, in order to prevent the possible influx of new viruses, aside from the African Swine Flu (ASF).

It will be recalled that in January 2019 to December 2020, the BOC-NAIA confiscated more or less 40,000 kilos of imported meat and meat products without the necessary clearance to control further spread of ASF in the country.

Talusan said it was done in collaboration with the Bureau of Animal Industry.

“As the country continue to suffer the ill effects of spread of ASF virus, Bureau of Customs frontliners and operatives under the directive of Bureau of Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero will further tighten border control measures against possible entry of meat products coming from ASF-affected countries through intensified and targeted profiling, X-ray scanning and physical examination,” Talusan added.
