Manila, Philippines – As the nation continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic, Lazada Philippines ramps up its efforts in partnership with local government units nationwide to provide health workers with much-needed surgical masks, and food assistance to the most vulnerable communities. To-date, Lazada Philippines has donated a total of 32,500 boxes of surgical face masks and 7,200 boxes of assorted groceries to the local government units of Manila, Marikina, multiple cities across Laguna, Cainta and most recently to cities in the National Capital Region such as Paranaque City, Quezon City, Pasay City; and provincial areas such as Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte. Lazada has also provided support to the Philippine General Hospital and the Philippine Red Cross in the form of surgical masks, food boxes and newborn and baby care items.

These donations are only part of Lazada Philippines’ ongoing contributions to support healthcare heroes on the frontlines, MSMEs and at-risk families. In support of MSMEs, Lazada Philippines has to date provided over PHP 100M in monetary assistance to over 7,000 sellers on its platform through its Lazada Bounce Back Together stimulus program. Lazada Philippines also continues to work with industry groups and the national government to digitize small businesses, having already onboarded more than 1,000 sellers through this initiative. Moreover, most recently, Lazada Philippines has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Go Negosyo and the Department of Agriculture to launch the Agri Marketplace Digitalization Program, which seeks to develop agribusinesses in the country by providing market access and expanding the reach of products from farmer associations, cooperatives, or agribusiness via online market platforms.

“A pandemic of historic proportions showed us just how closely connected we all are; it showed us the power of working together in solidarity, as a national community, to promote the resilience and protect the welfare of our countrymen, today and into our shared future,” shares Ray Alimurung, Chief Executive Officer of Lazada Philippines. “As such, from the onset of the pandemic we have been committed to being a partner in our country’s fight against this disease, working with local government units (LGUs) and various industry partners to quickly mobilize the largest philanthropic effort in our company’s history in the Philippines. Moreover, the grit and resilience of our sellers and countrymen has also motivated us to accelerate innovations and services in ensuring that MSMEs are provided the critical skills and tools to set them up for success as they digitize their businesses,” he adds.

To enable its customers to directly support various non-government organizations (NGOs) nationwide, Lazada Philippines also offers its digital giving platform, LazadaForGood, which provides consumers a safe and secure way to directly donate to a database of over 25 NGOs and counting, with over PHP 40 million raised so far through this program.

“Our efforts do not end here. We will continue to work closely with our partners in government and the private-sector to support the needs of our most vulnerable communities, ensure MSMEs are able to participate and thrive in the digital economy, and provide ways for our customers to support their fellow countrymen,” Mr. Alimurung concludes.
