ONE of the basics today in fighting the coronavirus is taking of vitamins. There are new four natural remedies under integrative medicine.
* Probiotics. This is best for preventing colds. A recent study found that athletes had 40 percent fewer colds when they took a daily probiotic. Because probiotics may increase the production of antibodies.
* Vitamin D. Recent studies show that low D is linked with an increased risk of respiratory infections. Vitamin D helps immune cells make antibodies. A daily dosage of 800 to 1,000 IU is recommended.
* Mushrooms. A 2013 study found that people who ate dried shiitakes showed an increase in immune cells. Compounds found in mushrooms called polysaccharides may help activate the immune system.
