Lim to leave Perpetual

COACH Frankie Lim has opted to leave University of Perpetual Help System Dalta’s men’s basketball program as the Las Piñas-based school is feeling the crunch of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Altas are in limbo after the athletics department underwent cost-cutting measures due to the public health emergency that stalled NCAA Season 96.

“For me, since they suspended my contract and they are not paying me, I have the option to leave di ba? I have been silent for the last two months,” said Lim, who was tapped by Perpetual two years ago, in an online interview.

“I think that since they are not paying me, I have an option to look for another job,” he added.

Lim has two years remaining with his contract with the Altas.

A four-time NCAA champion coach, Lim understands that “sports is not a priority” right now for Perpetual.

The Altas had their last practice on March 15 before the whole NCR went on an enhanced community quarantine and the players did home workouts to remain in shape.

All of Lim’s assistant coaches, including Ed Cordero who recently applied for the University of Santo Tomas head coaching vacancy, were not renewed by the school last May.

With MVP Prince Eze leading the charge, Lim steered Perpetual to a Final Four appearance two years ago.

The Altas then finished seventh the following year with a 5-13 mark, which also turned out to be Lim’s worst coaching record in the NCAA.

Perpetual has yet to release a statement regarding Lim’s decision to leave the squad.
