GIVE your grandparents a hug, a kiss or say ‘I love you’ to them.
This call was made by Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna to all those who still have their grandparents around, stressing they should consider themselves very lucky.
Lacuna said she joins Manilans in celebrating the ‘Grandparents’ Day’ and in honoring the senior citizens who have given the best years of their lives establishing a good life for their families, children and grandchildren, while contributing to the progress of the city.
“If our lolo and lola are still with you, show them how much you love them. Pay them a visit, hug them, kiss them, shower them with care,” Lacuna said.
“In fact, everyday should be grandparents’ day. We owe a lot to them,” the mayor stressed, citing the huge role that grandparents play in the family units.
Being the matriarchs or patriarchs, our grandparents are the best source of our wisdom and guidance.
The lady mayor called on those who already have jobs to make their grandparents happy by treating them out or gifting them even with just small items.
For those who do not earn yet, Lacuna said that self-made cards will bring the same kind of smile to their grandparents’ faces.
“Honoring them is the least that we can do. We should not neglect them just because they are no longer as useful as they used to be,” Lacuna said.
