The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced that it has collected more than P2 billion from its online payment system alone, a ranking official of the agency announced yesterday.

Lawyer Clarence “Chuck” V. Guinto, Director of the LTO-National Capital Region-West, said the agency was able to collect a total of P2 billion since the implementation of the online payment system for initial registration of brand-new vehicles.

Guinto said on August 15, 2019, the LTO-NCR celebrated a remarkable breakthrough as it marked the P1 billion online cashless graft-free collection.

During the said event, no less than ARTA Director General Atty. Jeremiah Belgica awarded the LTO with a certificate of commendation for exemplary service and support in the implementation of RA 11032, otherwise known as the “Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act”.

Guinto said the first evidence-based online payment facility is adeparture from the old system where payment are made manually thru cash or manager’s check.

Guinto said as of August 25, 2020 the system has collected P2.6 billion. “Through the partnerships of Paymaya, we can now go for retail online payment for renewal of motor vehicle registration and driver’s licenses,” he added.

In behalf of LTO, Guinto congratulated Paymaya for partnering with government agencies. “The LTO partnership with Paymaya is a welcome development. This will help us in our effort toward digital economy,” he added.

Annually, on the average, LTO collects P24 billion from 28 million Filipino motorists and drivers. This money is remitted to the Bureau of Treasury thru our authorized depository bank, LandBank of the Philippines,” Guinto revealed.

Guinto said prior to the partnership, the LBP and the BTr entered into a Tripartite Memorandum or Agreement (MOA) for the implementation of the LTO Online Payment System.

The event was held on December 1, 2017 at the LBP main office, said Guinto.
