LTO exec warns vs online driver’s license scam

A RANKING Land Transportation Office (LTO) official haz warned the public against online scammers offering hassle free processing of driver’s license applications.

Atty. Clarence V. Guinto, Director of LTO-National Capital Region-West and concurrent Director of LTO-Law Enforcement Section, issued the warning after personnel of the Philippine National Police Anti- Cybercrime Group and LTO personnel in cooperation with the Erwin Tulfo Center for Media and Public Service arrested a woman allegedly involved in the scam during an entrapment operation at a gas station Monday afternoon in Diego Silang, C-5 Road, Taguig City.

Guinto identified the arrested suspect as Melma Bella, 35, of 1370 Grille St., Bgy. Rizal, Makati City.

Guinto said a witness from the Erwin Tulfo Center for Media and Public Service noticed a Facebook account under the name Charles Kean Baltazar who offered to help individuals apply for driver’s licenses online. The witness posed as a client leading to the arrest of the suspect.

Seized during the entrapment operation were fake driver’s licenses and bogus official receipts.

The suspect is now detained in Camp Crame.

The LTO would like to reiterate to the public to always go through the proper and legal manner of availing of LTO services. LTO would also like to urge the public to report to the authorities anomalous acts and fixing activities. The LTO would like to acknowledge the swift action of its technical staff, PNP ACG unit, and the Office of Mr. Erwin Tulfo for the arrest of this unscrupulous individual. LTO is firm on its campaign to eradicate illegal and unlawful acts,” the LTO said.
