Maintenance activity conducted by CAAP for better UPS

A maintenance activity was conducted by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) at the Philippine Air Traffic Management Center (ATMC) on Sunday.

According to CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio, the maintenance activity involved the replacement of the blowing/cooling fan for the second uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that is being used to power the Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance / Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) System housed at the Air Traffic Management Center (ATMC).

“In anticipation to the power maintenance activity today, the CAAP issued a notice to airmen (NOTAM) (BO637/23) yesterday, 21 January 2023, at 8:53 PM to inform concerned airlines to be affected by the maintenance activity from 4:20AM-5:23AM, on January 22, 2023,” he said.

“The CAAP is grateful to the affected passengers for their patience during the said activity,” Apolonio added.

It as learned that after the successful maintenance activity which was undertaken by CAAP engineers and the equipment’s service provider, operations at the ATMC returned to normal at 6:09 a.m., with the NOTAM subsequently being cancelled at 6:16 a.m.

Nine flights that were affected were held at NAIA’s taxiway Charlie for departure while 38 flights waited for clearance delivery during the short outage that was necessary to complete the maintenance activity.
